Soundtrack

If the Whores on the Hill had a soundtrack, this is what it would sound like.

What was the soundtrack of your life in the '80s? Hop on the Comment Box and post your own Top Ten.

Whores on the Hill Top Ten Song List: Ranked and in order
Serge Gainsbourg would have to be at the top of Astrid’s list. Serge and no other. Astrid thinks she’s pretty tough too, so she’d load up her Top Ten list with muscle music. Although she’d have to sneak a Duran Duran song on there. Because, you know, it’s the ‘80s.

Astrid:
1. Serge Gainsbourg – “Je T’aime….Moi, Non Plus”
2. Joy Division – “Love Will Tear Us Apart”
3. Nena – “99 Luftballons” (The German version)
4. Violent Femmes – “Kiss Off”
5. Dead Kennedys – “Holiday in Cambodia”
6. The Cramps – “Love Me”
7. Siouxsie Sioux & the Banshees – “The Happy House”
8. Dead Milkmen – “You’ll Dance to Anything”
9. Duran Duran – “Save a Prayer”
10. The Smiths – “Some Girls Are Bigger Than Others”

Juli likes good driving music. Like getaway music. Juli can dance too, so she’d appreciate a song she could swing her hips to. She’d play “Punk Rock Girl” on repeat and imagine the Milkmen were singing about her with her bleach-tipped hair.

Juli:
1. New Order – “Temptation”
2. Prince – “When Doves Cry”
3. Fishbone – “Ma & Pa”
4. Duran Duran – “The Chaffeur”
5. Echo & the Bunnymen – “Lips Like Sugar”
6. Violent Femmes – “Blister in the Sun”
7. Dead Milkmen – “Punk Rock Girl”
8. The Cure – “Lovecats”
9. The Sugarcubes – “Birthday”
10. Yaz – “Midnight”

Thisbe’s more emotional. She likes the sappy, gothic stuff. If you played This Mortal Coil, she would get a weird, faraway look in her eyes and sing all the lyrics by memory. She’s all heart and would like her music that way too.

Thisbe:
1. This Mortal Coil – “Kanga-Roo”
2. Depeche Mode – “But Not Tonight”
3. The Smiths – “Please, Please, Please Let Me Get What I Want”
4. Psychedelic Furs – “All of This and Nothing”
5. Sinead O’Connor – “Just Like U Said It Would B”
6. The Cure – “Close to Me”
7. Yaz – “In My Room”
8. The Hunger – “Soundtrack”
9. Kate Bush – “Running Up that Hill (A Deal with God)”
10. New Order – “Bizarre Love Triangle”

Deb Scott is the original, the one and only. She’s so tough she could put The Clash and Fleetwood Mac on the same Top Ten List and still be cool. Simply because she said so.

Deb Scott:
1. The Clash – “Lost in the Supermarket”
2. Iggy Pop -- "The Passenger”
3. The Ramones – “I Wanna Be Sedated”
4. Blondie -- "Heart of Glass”
5. Bauhaus – “Exquisite Corpse”
6. Fleetwood Mac – “Never Going Back Again”
7. Buzzcocks– “What Do I Get?”
8. Freur– “Doot Doot”
9. Sex Pistols – “Holidays in the Sun”
10. Mission to Burma– “That's When I Reach For My Revolver”
